Middle Park Health’s Emergency Department at its Fraser Campus received the Pediatric Advanced COPPER (Colorado Pediatric Preparedness for the Emergency Room) Designation on May 8th, 2026. This certification completes COPPER recognition across all three of Middle Park Health’s Emergency Departments.
COPPER, administered by the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program in Colorado, is a meticulous certification program designed to ensure that emergency departments are prepared to handle pediatric emergencies effectively. The certification evaluates emergency departments based on a set of evidence-based guidelines and best practices, focusing on essential aspects of pediatric emergency care, including equipment, medication, protocols, and staff training.
Middle Park Health’s other two campus locations, Granby and Kremmling, earned the same Pediatric Advanced certification in August 2025. With its third and final campus earning the COPPER designation, Middle Park Health locations are three of the 44 COPPER-recognized emergency departments in Colorado.
Across all three locations, the team has taken extra steps to align with the most recent best practice guidelines, including implementing a standard of practice to weigh all pediatric patients in kilograms for safe medication administration, purchasing a device to assist staff with placing IVs, reducing the chances of multiple attempts, and purchasing distraction toys to offer an extra layer of comfort.
With these implementations, the Fraser Campus earned a readiness score of 96/100, 19 points higher than the average for facilities of similar size, which emphasizes the team’s commitment to caring for pediatric patients. Facilities with high readiness scores have a 76% lower mortality risk in critically ill children and 60% lower mortality risk in critically injured children.
Middle Park Health is deeply dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality pediatric emergency care tailored to the unique needs of children and their families. The organization recognizes that emergencies can be especially stressful for young patients and this certification reinforces that MPH can treat each child in a timely, safe, and comfortable manner.
