Middle Park Health Granby and Kremmling Emergency Departments earn COPPER – Pediatric Advanced Certification

Middle Park Health’s Emergency Departments at its Granby and Kremmling Campuses received the Pediatric Advanced COPPER (Colorado Pediatric Preparedness for the Emergency Room) Designation on August 1st, 2025.

COPPER, administered by the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program in Colorado, is a meticulous certification program designed to ensure that emergency departments are prepared to handle pediatric emergencies effectively. The certification evaluates emergency departments based on a set of evidence-based guidelines and best practices, focusing on essential aspects of pediatric emergency care, including equipment, medication, protocols, and staff training. Only 16% of Colorado Emergency Departments hold this designation.

With the Pediatric Advanced Certification, Middle Park Health has shown its dedication to providing high-quality, viable pediatric emergency care. Both the Kremmling and Granby Emergency Departments completed the evaluation process which included assessment of equipment, medication resources, policies, and procedures, in addition to staff training and competencies.

The MPH Emergency Department team has been dedicated to elevating the care they provide to pediatric patients. The process began by strengthening staff education, hands-on trainings, and process improvements. From there, MPH invested in new equipment and supplies to better support pediatric patients. The last element to prepare for the certification was completion of a comprehensive policy review designed specifically to enhance pediatric care.

In addition to the accomplishment of the COPPER designation MPH also completed a National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) survey and scored high enough to be placed in the 97th percentile for all Emergency Departments across the nation.

Laura Wooldridge, ED/Inpatient Director at Middle Park Health expressed her gratitude to her staff for this significant accomplishment, stating “We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and excited to continue raising the bar for pediatric care in our community.”
